-> In a restless world like this is
22 June - 07 September 2024

Bundoora Homestead Art Centre
7 Prospect Hill Dr, Bundoora VIC 3083

Anni Hagberg, Katie Paine, Katrin Koenning, Leonie Brialey, Siri Hayes. Curated by Chantelle Mitchell & Jaxon Waterhouse

In a restless world like this is emerges in response to two works held in the City of Darebin collection; Siri Hayes’ large-scale photographs, Lyric Theatre at Merri Creek and Crossing the Merri (both 2003). Inviting responses from Anni Hagberg, Katie Paine, Katrin Koenning and Leonie Brialey, this exhibition reverberates outwards from its sources—the Merri Creek as a physical space, but also the Merri Creek as presented within Hayes’ works—to consider what might reside in the generative spaces within and between worlds.

-> Pit Projects: Thistle Chair
Collaboration with Michael Gittings
2024

Thistle Chair is a large sculptural couch constructed from stainless steel and upholstered in the pappus-clad seeding flowers of the Artichoke Thistle. The work is driven by an interest in the brittle and inhospitable fur-like materiality of the matured thistles as well as the play between utility and complete uselessness in furniture as pure sculpture.

-> Water under a bridge
22 September - 14 October 2023

CAVES
The Nicholas Building, Room 5, Level 8
37 Swanston Street, Melbourne, VIC 3000

Water under a bridge is an installation, an exhibition and a process sprawling across two locations. Part one continues to be  relentlessly submerged and revealed by the tidal shifts of the Maribyrnong River, and part two evolved in the gallery space throughout the exhibition period.

34 Cremorne St, Cremorne, VIC 3121

Anni Hagberg, Anthea Kemp & Hannah Gartside, Caro Pattle, Liam Fleming, Makiko Ryujin, Michael Gittings, Thomas Lentini. Curated by Eliza Tiernan & Josephine Briginshaw

Improper Structures revisits everyday objects within our interior spaces. Eight contemporary makers working across ceramic, textile, furniture and glass disciplines eschew notions of pure functionality to engender connection, play, intimacy, comfort and reward. Works illustrate a fluidity between artistic expression and domestic life; material mutations, simple pleasures, hybrid forms, and narrative disruptions rule our domain.
